On completion of the course, you will be able to explain the history of fracture mechanics, its principles, and differing models. You will also be able to characterize the best assessment methods using fracture mechanics and defi ne and distinguish between the traditional approach of fatigue assessment and the fracture mechanics approach to fatigue assessment.

Osório Gonçalves is a Principal Integrity Engineer working for the ROSEN Integrity Services division in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK since 2018. Previously, he worked for 17 years in Petrobras Transportes in Brazil as an Integrity Engineer taking technical and managerial positions in operational and corporate departments. Osório holds a Masters degree in Advanced Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London and a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering from UENF in Brazil. His current interests include integrity assessment, integrity management and inspection of pipelines affected with cracking mechanisms and fracture control of repurposed pipelines.
